"The mission of the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) is to provide consumer protection through education and fair but vigilant regulation while promoting a stable and competitive environment for insurers". ODI provides consumer information and investigates complaints against companies or agents involving all kinds of insurance.

In addition, consumer services representatives assist Ohio insurance consumers through its toll-free hotline, educational materials, social media, community outreach, and meeting one-on-one. Representatives respond to a wide variety of insurance inquiries and investigate insurance complaints against companies and agents.

ODI has a Regulatory Ombudsman. The ombudsman acts as a liaison between the department and consumers who feel that their issue was not resolved satisfactorily.
